“I felt like I needed a change. I wanted to go abroad and do something, not just a language school or only travelling. I wanted to go somewhere where I could get to know another culture than my own. I heard about an NGO in North Peru and I wanted to go there. To be honest, at first I didn’t feel safe, because where I was living is very different to where I grew up. Also, as a European girl it can be ‘tough’ sometimes, to be in very different surroundings from what I knew till then. The city where I was working, is not the most beautiful city in the world. But, the people are friendly, the weather is good, the beach is close – so what more do you want? When I tell people in Switzerland about my time in Peru, I tell them I was teaching children. In fact they taught me so much more. I know it sounds cheesy, but this experience has changed my life.”
