“I am from Chile and I always felt the urge to explore my own continent. I decided to take a break from medical school to travel around South America. So far travelling has made clear to me that I don’t want to become as most doctors in Chile: caring about a big house, a big car and a big name. I still want to graduate from medical school and become a pediatric surgeon, but I don’t need a big career. I knew that before, but travelling has made this very clear to me. I just want to work very hard for a while and travel as much as I can. Travelling makes me see things from a different perspective. During my travels I see many places with people in need. My dream has always been to join the Peace Corps and help poor children in Africa or elsewhere. At this point I think that that’s achievable for me.”
